A flexible screen smart by Toshiba

Toshiba is shown at the SID 2010 with the presentation of its technology for flexible displays intelligent. A prototype full of pressure sensors that will undoubtedly revolutionize both the growth sector of flexible displays and interactivity with the devices of everyday life.

The slab measures just made 0.1 mm thick, the flexible color screen diagonal is 8.4 inches. For now, nothing really transcendent. Yet we quickly notice that the flexibility of the screen directly affects the content displayed.

Flexible interactive screen

Toshiba seems to have found a very interesting utility to flexible display technology. In addition to comfort, compactness and ease of storage they represent, using their properties of flexibility by combining with pressure sensors to interact instinctively on the current view.

In this video, the user bends the flexible screen in a way to zoom in on satellite map (here it comes to Google Earth). When folded the other way, it's a zoom that takes place. Direct control of a device that is reminiscent of the Project Cobra .

The possibilities offered by this new technology are enormous, the problem persists only food. Indeed, it is currently not possible to integrate flexible components to the screens, which are necessarily connected to a conventional power cable.

Here, however, a very interesting prototype, in development prospects make us hope for the best in the months and years ahead, when will the flexible screen interactive research laboratories to the mass market.
