Tokyo Station was able to test for two days a flexible screen of 145 inches, 3m x 2m, operating by means of technology PTA (Plasma Tube Array).
A millimeter thick only, with a weight of 180kg and reduced power consumption (relatively speaking) of 1000W this type of display signage could prove more interesting than LED displays.

This model developed by East Japan Marketing & Communications Inc. and Shinoda Plasma combines multiple screens 1m by 1m, there are easily the joins between the screens (which hopefully will disappear over time) and has a resolution of 960 * 720 pixels.
One can imagine for the future all kind of combination: 1m horizontal screens on 6m, angled screens ...
The first screen should be shipped in final product in October 2009 for an amount of 40 million yen (about € 300,000 if my calculations are correct) to a prefecture, Japan.
All this can be an interesting role for signage in stations or airports, however, we are skeptical as part of a residential use.
